Simulations of Rare Events in Fiber Optics by Interacting Particle Systems

چکیده
In this paper we study the robustness of linear pulses, solitons, and dispersionmanaged solitons, under the influence of random perturbations. First, we address the problem of the estimation of the outage probability due to polarization-mode dispersion. Second, we compare the pulse broadening due to random fluctuations of the group-velocity dispersion. We use an original interacting particle system to estimate the tails of the probability density functions of the pulse widths. The method is an adaptative Monte Carlo method that enforces the simulations to probe the regions of practical importance by selection and mutation steps.

Genealogical Particle Analysis of Rare Events
In this paper an original interacting particle system approach is developed for studying Markov chains in rare event regimes. The proposed particle system is theoretically studied through a genealogical tree interpretation of Keynman-Kac path measures. The algorithmic implementation of the particle system is presented. An efficient estimator for the probability of ocurrence of a rare event is p...
متن کاملCentral Limit Theorem for Adaptative Multilevel Splitting Estimators in an Idealized Setting
The Adaptive Multilevel Splitting algorithm is a very powerful and versatile iterative method to estimate the probability of rare events, based on an interacting particle systems. In [3], in a so-called idealized setting, the authors prove that some associated estimators are unbiased, for each value of the size n of the systems of replicas and of a resampling number k. Here we go beyond and pro...

متن کاملGenetic genealogical models in rare event analysis
We present in this article a genetic type interacting particle systems algorithm and a genealogical model for estimating a class of rare events arising in physics and network analysis. We represent the distribution of a Markov process hitting a rare target in terms of a Feynman–Kac model in path space. We show how these branching particle models described in previous works can be used to estima...
متن کاملWeight Measurements by Using Simple Optical-Fiber Sensors (RESEARCH NOTE)
The use of different optical-fiber sensors for weighing measurements is Abstract described. By using three different mechanical stressing mechanisms, the operation of the fiber-to-fiber transducer systems are tested and the results are presented. Parameters such as sensitivity, hysteresis, resolution, and dynamic range are measured. A comparison of the results has shown that the sensor system m...
